Southern Historical Tour

DAY ONE:

We have any early morning departure heading to Atlanta, Georgia.  We will have a breakfast stop along the way around 8:00am.  Our first stop will be in Braselton at the Mayfield Dairy Farm.  A tour of the milk production facility gives visitors a glimpse of the processes involved in getting a product to the market.  Headed on into Atlanta, lunch is included at the Varsity Restaurant, the largest fast food restaurant anywhere.  This afternoon, we visit Atlanta Cyclorama at the Civil War Museum.  A 300 degree painting of the Battle of Atlanta.  The Cyclorama is 358 feet in circumference and 42 feet high.  Visitors visit the painting from a revolving platform as sound and light effects, narration and 3-D figures highlight the experience.  Dinner tonight is included at the famous Mary Mac’s Tea Room.  Its country style cooking at it’s very best.  Tonight we will stay in Atlanta.

DAY TWO:

After breakfast at the hotel, which is included, we will have an 8:00am guided tour of the Georgia Capital Building.  We will then head to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum, which contains interactive exhibits that chronicle events during Carter’s 1976-1981 administration.  This afternoon, we arrive in beautiful Macon, Georgia for the 2018 Cherry Blossom Festival.   We will pick up our step on tour guide for a guided tour of the Cherry Blossom Riding Trail Tour.  Here we will experience some of the most beautiful scenery and a visit to the Cannon Ball House, built in 1853, the only house in Macon damaged during the Civil War, when struck by a HOTCHKISS shell during a federal attack.  We will also visit the Hay House, usually called the “Palace of the South”.  We stay tonight in the Macon area.  Dinner tonight is included at Michael’s on Mulberry, 150 year old Stage Coach Shop.

DAY THREE:

Once we have breakfast at our hotel that is included, we will travel to Pine Mountain to the beautiful Callaway Gardens.  Upon arrival, we will have a guided tour of the gardens, which is some of the largest in the world.  Lunch is included at the Callaway Gardens Resort Restaurant.  Leaving the gardens. We will visit Hills & Dales Estate, the Fuller E. Callaway Family Home, which is a beautiful Italian Villa.  Our last stop today is Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Little White House.  What a great way to end another day.  We stay the night in the La Grange, Georgia area.

DAY FOUR:

After breakfast at the hotel, which is included, we will cross over into Alabama.  We stop in Montgomery and pick up a tour guide and have a tour of the historical city.  This afternoon, we continue to Birmingham, where we will visit the Arlington Antebellum Home and Gardens.  We have a wonderful lunch here today which is included.  This is the cities only Antebellum Home that was spared when Union troops used the home headquarters, while they planned the Burning of the University of Alabama.  We will stay in the Huntsville area for the night.

DAY FIVE:

We will enjoy our breakfast at our hotel, which is included, we will arrive at the US Space and Rocket Center.  Here you will see the restored Saturn V Moon Rocket and one of the world’s largest collection of space and rocket hardware.  We will also experience the Space Dome IMAX Theatre.  We return back home later this evening.
